From Theater and Feature Factory to a Business Lab leveraging a real Product Operating System

Do you see the value in becoming a Product Organization, but are unsure what to do beyond the buzz?

So you’ve read the book, listened to podcasts, and seen some videos.

Maybe you even have a hypothesis about why moving from projects or an agile feature factory to a Product Operating Model will help your product organization.

But what does it mean in practice?

Where is your organization on the journey?

Are you a product theater? Factory? Or lab? This is where my conversations with leaders like you start.

NEW: You can now self-assess your product organization’s standing using the product organization scorecard I’ve created, based on my work with leaders like you.

Shape the path towards a customer-centric Product Lab

You have clear outcome-oriented goals for why moving to Product makes sense for your organization.

You have a clear understanding of what a Product Operating Model would look like in your organization and how it is different than your current operating model.

You know how to approach the journey towards a Product Operating Model.

Introducing the Design/Evolve Your Product Organization Workshop

In this workshop, heads of product/tech and their leadership teams:

  • Understand why companies are shifting towards customer-centric lean/agile product organizations operating as Product Labs rather than Feature Factories (or process theater)
  • Gain familiarity with lean/agile product operating model principles and patterns.
  • Assess their organization using a lean/agile product operating model lens.
  • Determine how to approach it in their context, with an emphasis on intent, principles, and context-appropriate patterns.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

The goal is to establish and align on:

  • What operating system/model do we want to adopt? Why? What will be the evidence of traction towards that goal?
  • Where we are currently and what sort of organization we want to become – Focusing on the behaviors we want to see.
  • What are some practices and patterns that could help us create this organization? Enable the behaviors we want to see?
  • A high-level trail map for evolving our organization, using a product approach to develop our product organization.

Approach

The bulk of the thinking is done together in real-time in workshop sessions, with us helping you apply relevant thinking approaches and tools.

We typically get acquainted with your context and expectations using a few focused empathy interviews to get the most out of the workshop.

Duration

1-2 days of interviews and preparation.

The main workshop is typically held for 2-3 days, depending on the organization’s size and complexity, and is preferably held in an off-site location.

Real World agility Outcomes Driving Business Impact

Yuval helped me bring the science and mindset of agile into the Biotech world. He advised me and my team on how to operationalize the agile best practices and apply them pragmatically and practically to our unique context – with a focus on transparency, empiricism, shared understanding, and empowerment. Yuval brings a wealth of experience across many industries and is a real partner in our journey.
By having Yuval on board, we found not just an experienced professional but also a partner in our lean journey with a passion and commitment to coach and guide us until we achieve our goals. Yuval’s vast knowledge and experience along with keen analytical skills enable him to fit the lean principles into our organization’s DNA and to help us overcome difficulties and constraints without risking our short-term business targets. Yuval has many capabilities which make him highly versatile. He can swiftly move from strategy/blueprints to training a class, implementing methods/processes all the way to helping us through some tough issues through hands-on coaching. This makes Yuval very valuable and influential in our journey towards lean.”
Yuval is the best Lean/Agile partner I have ever worked with. Over the 2+ years of our working relationship, he has consistently brought a pragmatic and refreshingly direct approach to problem-solving, coaching, and training. He leans in, and rather than prescribing a canned academic/textbook solution, he works with us to truly understand our core problems and then prescribes a tailored solution that works best for us. We have measured significant improvements in schedule adherence, quality, and customer satisfaction. The results have been dramatic. In addition to working with our core development teams, Yuval has presented Lean/Agile fundamentals to senior executives within my organization and customers who participate in our Customer Advisory Board meetings. He is a no-nonsense straight-talker, and I unconditionally recommend him to anyone serious about agile transformation.
When I asked, “Who should guide us through our Agile journey?” “Yuval” was the reply, followed by the reasons. What I have experienced has been consistent. Yuval is knowledgeable and guides you by asking the right questions at the right time to get you and your team thinking. He has a knack for identifying the missing concepts and language and getting us to talk about those in such a way that we can improve how we work together. Most consultants tell you the answer; Yuval asks the right questions so you find the answer yourself.
