What does Scrum/Agile mean for you as a leader?
How do I, as a leader, create the conditions in which Scrum/Agile can thrive?
How can I support the Scrum accountabilities, artifacts, and events?
The bad news is that the Scrum Guide doesn’t provide answers to any of these questions.
The good news? I partnered with Dave West to write the Scrum Guide Companion for Leaders to close that gap.
The companion white paper answers the questions above. One conclusion leaders make when reading it is that there’s a lot that they need to understand and take to heart in the Scrum Master leadership accountability. And that’s by design.
What if I’m using SAFe? some other scaling approach? some other homegrown form of agility? I think you will still find the framing in the companion useful – especially because whether you explicitly call it Scrum or not, Scrum has influenced most agile at scale approaches. My SAFe clients specifically do find it quite useful.
Check out the whitepaper and/or the audio version.
Then ask yourself, “What did I just learn here? So, what does that mean for my role as a leader? Now what?” If you want my take on leading in Scrum, grab some time on my calendar, and let’s discuss.
The companion is based on my experience helping leaders navigate the difficult choices needed to close the curtain on agile theater and create a professional scrum environment in their organization. To learn more check out the Agility Strategy Workshop and Fixing Your Agility.
