Scrum Guide Companion for Leaders
Co-authored with Dave West, this Scrum.org whitepaper answers the questions the Scrum Guide doesn't: what Scrum means for leaders, how to create conditions for it to thrive, and how to support Scrum accountabilities.

The bad news is that the Scrum Guide doesn’t provide answers to any of these questions.
The good news? I partnered with Dave West to write the Scrum Guide Companion for Leaders to close that gap.
The companion white paper answers the questions above. One conclusion leaders make when reading it is that there’s a lot that they need to understand and take to heart in the Scrum Master leadership accountability. And that’s by design.
What if I’m using SAFe? some other scaling approach? some other homegrown form of agility? I think you will still find the framing in the companion useful - especially because whether you explicitly call it Scrum or not, Scrum has influenced most agile at scale approaches. My SAFe clients specifically do find it quite useful.
